Google AdWords Worst Practices

Here are some worst practices for a Google Ad Words pay-per-click campaign. Why these should not be done is discussed in detail in The AdWords Edge:

  • Don't bid on a single word - always bid on 2-word keyword phrases or longer.

  • Don't increase your CPC just to raise your ad position. Write smarter ads.

  • Don't bid on just a handful of keywords and then stop. That's what your competition is doing. Keyword management should be ongoing.

  • Don't dump all of your keywords into a single Ad Group.

  • Don't repeat your exact keyword phrase in the title and the body more than once. Instead, use a different adjective or word form.

  • Don't blindly copy and paste keywords from the AdWords Keyword Suggestion Tool - they will not be targeted enough.

  • Don't use worn-out words, sensational words, hype words or other overused words like "amazing", "incredible", remarkable". Nobody believes you.

  • Don't give up before two months are over, thinking that AdWords won't work for you or is too expensive for the results obtained.
